The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 Outpaces Eclipse on DVD

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" gotoff to a stronger start on home entertainment than the last"Twilight" movies, selling 3.2 million DVD and Blu-ray discs over theweekend.

That is 18 percent more than the 2010 "The TwilightSaga: Eclipse" took in its first weekend of home release in December 2010."Eclipse" sold 2.7 million units its first weekend of release.

The discs went on sale at midnight on Saturday -- timingreserved for big titles. Target and Walmart stores each sold exclusive versionsof "Breaking Dawn" DVDs and Blu-rays, and held special events justafter midnight Saturday morning.

Summitsaid that film also had approximately 50,000 digital sales, a 47 percentincrease over "Eclipse," and approximately 80,000 Video-on-demandtransactions, a 142 percent increase over the 2010 movie.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" wasreleased in theaters on Nov. 16, 2011 and has grossed more than $700 millionworldwide.

The second installment in "Breaking Dawn" -- andthe final episode of the "Twilight" series -- is scheduled for a Nov.16 theatrical release.

It’s no fluke why Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and BellaSwan’s (Kristen Stewart) love story in The Twilight Saga has completelycaptivated so many fans, Peter Facinelli told Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotbduring his Feb. 7 appearance on the Today show “It’s not a typical vampiremovie, it’s about forbidden love,” he told the hosts. Facinelli, who plays Dr.Carlisle Cullen in the films, called his “son” Edward Cullen, played by Rob, “atimeless gentleman,” explaining the character’s enormous appeal to young women.

Peter also said he felt that playing Carlislehasn’t typecast him. In fact, it has allowed him to play very differentcharacters in other film and television projects.

Peter Facinelli Helps Raise Funds for Niece's High School

Peter Facinelli turned down the chance to play in acelebrity flag football game in Indianapolisand attend the Super Bowl this weekend.

The 38-year-old actor -- known for his roles playing doctorsin the “Twilight” movies and Showtime series “Nurse Jackie” -- had a goodreason to skip out on the Super Bowl festivities.

Facinelli needed to stop by HolyTrinity DiocesanHigh School in Hicksville.Signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans, Facinelli helped theschool raise money for its new track, which will cost about $100,000.

“The fans continue to support us and we are very appreciative,”said Facinelli, who grew up in Ozone Park and attended Saint Francis Prepatory in Queens. “I am happy to be here.”

Facinelli’s niece Gabrielle Cotrone, 17, and nephew LorenzoCotrone, 14, attend Holy Trinity Diocesan High School. His othernephew Louis, 19, is a graduate of the school.

"You should always make time for family. I knew I hadto show support for my niece and nephew," Facinelli said.

Excited attendees paid $15 for Facinelli’s autograph and $20for an autograph and picture. Saturday’s event raised about $7,000.

Facinelli understands the importance of autograph signingand the huge amount of money it can raise. Facinelli has participated in Alex’sLemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, Haiti Relief and TennesseeFlood Relief raising more than $100,000.

Facinelli’s sister Joanne Cotrone, of Bellmore,is thankful that her brother is always eager to help even with his demandingschedule.

In exactly one week, Twilight fans will be gathering at Wal-Marts and Targets around the US for the release of the Breaking Dawn Part 1 DVD.

To make it easy for our fellow Peter Facinelli fans to choose which party is the one for you, here's a list of the details and events that will be happening at both:

Twilight fans at Walmart will get the following exclusive content with every purchase of the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, a 2-disc DVD or Blu-ray:

On Saturday night, “Twilight” superstar Peter Facinelli,looking dapper in a gray suit, hosted at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens insideParis Las Vegas. Facinelli hit the red carpet for photos before heading to theclub. While on the red carpet fans gathered to catch a glimpse of Facinelli,who played Dr. Carlise Cullen in the “Twilight” series of films, as he talkedwith media and posed with the Sugar Factory special-edition “Vegas” couturepop, aptly adorned with a pair of dice. Facinelli was in Vegas with a couple ofhis childhood friends.

Before heading upstairs to Chateau Nightclub & Gardens,Facinelli spoke about the final installment of the “Twilight Saga” coming totheaters this November. He also talked about his new independent film“Loosies,” which he wrote, produced and starred in. The movie, based on a pickpocketing lead character with a few indiscretions, had Facinelli joking that itwas “based on a true story.” Wrapping up the red carpet, Facinelli showedappreciation to his female fans and Twi-hards by taking multiple photos withthe excited devotees.

Once inside, Facinelli held court in a VIP booth overlookingthe dance floor and checked out the DJ booth. Later in the night he headedupstairs to the Gardens, the club’s third floor, and caught part of DJChristopher Lawrence’s set.

Target to Have Exclusive Sneak Peak of Breaking Dawn Part 2

"Twilight" fans have become accustomed to seekingout just-released still photos and video clips from films in the series on theWeb, but now they'll have to make the trek to their local Target store for apreview.

The store's website has announced that certain locationswill stay open late on Friday, Feb. 10 to show a sneak peak of "BreakingDawn Part 2," the final film in Stephenie Meyer's vampire-romance series.

Feb. 10 is the date that "Breaking Dawn Part 1"will be released on DVD and Blu-ray. Beginning at 9 p.m. that night, thoseparticipating stores will hand out tickets to buy the movie, and then thepreview will be shown at 11 p.m. Stores will close at 1 a.m. The Target websiteoffers a link to participating stores.

The copies of the movie sold at Target also come with anartificial flower that was used in Bella and Edward's wedding on "BreakingDawn Part 1."

Some fans who had already pre-ordered the movieelsewhere were upset that they didn't know about the special prop in advance.Wrote one reader at CafeMom.com: "BOO! I already pre-ordered the DVD fromAmazon. I hate it when Target does this; a week after they announce when theDVD is coming out, Target announces their release with some extra goody likethe petal from the wedding."

As indie-prods go, I applaud a modest little pleasure calledLoosies and its writer-star Peter Facinelli, the handsome, charismatic actorwhose work as a regular in the Twilight vampire franchise and the Nurse JackieTV series in no way prepared me for his considerable accomplishments here. Thecharacter he has invented for himself is Bobby, a New York City pickpocket who wanders throughthe city pretending to be a Wall Street stockbroker. He’s charming and witty,his widowed mother is on relief, and he has to make ends meet to keep her inenough change to feed her addiction to church bingo. Bobby makes a big mistakewhen he steals the badge of a ferocious cop (Michael Madsen), bringing a loadof trouble to his fence (a shabby looking Vincent Gallo, playing to type).Stirring the stew even more, Bobby discovers his ex-girlfriend Lucy (JaimieAlexander) is pregnant with his baby. With two worlds crashing like fun-fairbumper cars, Bobby becomes a moving target in a big city where he was once freeto practice his skills incognito. After a lot of soul searching, he decides thetime has come to re-evaluate his mistakes and assume some adult responsibility.Unexpectedly in love with Lucy and intrigued by the idea of becoming a parent,Bobby finds himself in the unprecedented position of an outlaw who wants to gostraight with a fist aimed at his head from every direction. Bobby is indebtedto the vicious loan shark played with such poisonous relish by Mr. Gallobecause he holds a death threat over his head to pay off his dead father’sgambling debts. His goal is to break free. But first he has to pull one moreheist that could cost him his life.

Loosies are single cigarettes sold at a bar of the same namewhere Lucy works, but very little seems loose in this small film composed ofinteresting, offbeat characters, energetic camerawork and brief, tellingmoments that reflect deeper aspects of Bobby’s relationship with the worldaround him—a little girl sees him robbing multiple dupes in the subway andgives him a knowing wink; Bobby teaching two Boy Scouts how to shoot craps. Itall adds up to a three-dimensional profile of a loser desperate to fill in thegaps of a wasted life who discovers, in the process, an inner decency he didn’tknow he had. Mr. Facinelli is a good actor with solid credits but no stardom.After Loosies, that could change. He’s also a careful writer, as this debutscript proves. The film was directed by Michael Corrente, who adds a few visualtouches of his own, like a clever montage of Bobby’s frenetic sleight-of-handpickpocketing techniques. In a surprisefinish that turns the tables on his adversaries, Bobby finds an unexpected allyin his mother’s new lover, a dull, middle-class jeweler named Carl, played withsubtle power by Joe Pantoliano. Not a great movie, but satisfying enough tohold attention and win your affection—a rare blue-plate combo on today’sovercrowded menu of movie chaos that sticks to your ribs and stays there.

2011 was a busy year for our beloved Peter Facinelli. Between wearing his writing, producing, acting, parenting, husbanding and philanthropist hats, it seems that Peter didn't have a minute to spare this past year.

We thought is would be fun to take a walk down memory lane and celebrate Peter's incredible year by posting some of his Pete Tweets, videos and pictures. It would be impossible to list them all so we gathered up a select few that we think showcase Peter's year month by month. We tried to get a variety that showcase his work, his home life, his charity work and some that are just for fun.

Wading through the crowds, the Christmas cheer and maybe going a bit goofy, the couple along with their three children were spotted at Disneyland. The Disneyland Resort is decorated especially bright for the holiday season. With It’s A Small World transformed into a delightful holiday village that guests can boat through and theHaunted Mansion getting some of Jack Skellington’s magic, it’s almost impossible not to walk away thinking about the holidays.

While the two were taking time off expect to see more of the couple. As the couple announced on Thursday that that will be filming a reality show on a seven-acre farm in Central California about living away from the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles.

The Battle has Begun: Star Trek and Star Wars vs. Twilight

It appears that Star Trek's George Takei has dusted off his phaser and is ready to head into battle again!

This time, it isn't the Klingons he's after, it's Twilight!

George Takei has accomplished what was once thought seemingly impossible and figured a way to settle one of the oldest nerd scores: The epic Star Trek vs. Star Warsdebate. Prompted by the ongoing showdown betweenWilliam Shatner (“First of all, Star Wars was derivative ofStar Trek… derivative!”: Point Shatner) and Carrie Fisher(“Klingon? It just sounds like a laundry detergent”: Point Fisher), the great Mr. Sulu opted to take charge and become a Broker of Peace to put an end to the galaxy-and-decade-spanning feud once and for all.

Twilight is descending over Hong Kong.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1,” the latest installmentof the hugely popular vampire-romance series, opens in Hong Kong on Dec. 22. The movie opened in the U.S. last month and has been playing in dozensof markets around the world, including the Philippines,Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

Actor Peter Facinelli, who stars as Dr. Carlisle Cullen, metwith journalists at a news conference in Hong Kong Tuesday, and offered anattempt at a Cantonese greeting: “lei ho,” or hello. The 38-year-old NewYorker, who plays the vampire patriarch of the Cullen clan, said he wasthrilled to be visiting the city for the first time and had already scoped outtourist attractions like the Peak and Victoria Harbour’sevening laser show.

He was so taken with Hong Kongthat he wants to make a movie in the city, he said. “I’m going to write [ascript], and I’m coming back to film it.”

“Breaking Dawn Part 1,” the fourth movie in a planned seriesof five, also stars Kristen Stewart as a human teenager who marries and becomespregnant by a vampire, played by Robert Pattinson.

It has earned $633.5 million globally, through last Sunday,since its Nov. 18 release, according to Box Office Mojo. “The Twilight Saga:Breaking Dawn Part 2,” the final film in the franchise, has completed filmingand will be released in November 2012.

Mr. Facinelli said he already missed working with hisco-actors, but there was one thing he’s happy he doesn’t have to go through anymore.

“I’m not going to miss putting the makeup on,” he said,describing the physical transformation he goes through — including an ashencomplexion, blond hair and uncomfortable contact lens — to project a handsomelyghoulish figure.

Verdi Productions (VP) announced today that its film "Loosies" has locked up over 24 overseas territories and the VP team will head to the Berlin and Cannes Film Festivals in early 2012 for the film's final sales. Loosies is being released in theaters on Jan 11, 2012 through IFC Films and will expand to over 50 million homes on Video on Demand through major US cable distributors, as well as iTunes and the SundanceNow website.

"Loosies" tells the story of Bobby (Peter Facinelli, "Twilight"), a NYC pickpocket, who roams the city disguised as a stockbroker. He's handsome and charming, fitting in perfectly with the Wall Street types on the subway and downtown, but with no father and a mother who does not work, Bobby is forced to live a life of crime in order to make ends meet. The original soundtrack is composed and performed by American Idol alumnus Paul McDonald with an original score by Chad Fischer ("Garden State") with Michael Corrente directing.

Bobby tempts fate with the long arm of the law by lifting the badge of a New York City Detective (Michael Madsen, "Kill Bill," "Infected") much to the annoyance of his viciously manipulative boss Jax (Vincent Gallo, "Brown Bunny"). Bobby becomes the center of a citywide search, and approaches Jax, his mentor, for advice. Jax scolds Bobby for bringing the heat anywhere near him or his business -- the last thing Jax needs is any extra attention on his illicit underground business.

For Week 2 of our ongoing series Peter Facinelli Movie of the Week, we're featuring Peter's 2001 thriller Tempted.

Storyline:
A deadly thriller set in New Orleans, about a wealthy businessman, Charlie Le Blanc, who discovers that he only has a short time to live. As he prepares to will his fortune to his beautiful, adoring young wife, Lilly, he begins to wonder if she really deserves it. In order to test her loyalty, he befriends a handsome young man, Jimmy Mulate, and offers him $40,000 to tempt his wife. Jimmy refuses at first, until he meets Lilly, then he's hooked. He makes his play for her and she refuses; she really is loyal to her husband Charlie. But when Charlie's secretary tells Lilly about the scheme she becomes infuriated, invites Jimmy back to her house, and sleeps with him. Unbeknownst to the lovers, Charlie has had a surveillance expert wire the house, and now he knows everything. When Charlie confronts Jimmy and asks if he has anything to report, Jimmy says "no", because he has fallen in love with Lilly....

‘Loosies’ Review: ‘Twilight’ Co-Star Sinks His Teeth Into Pick Pocket Turmoil

Big Hollywood gives Peter, his movie and his co-stars the glowing review they deserve:

Bobby (Peter Facinelli) is living the high life in the new drama “Loosies.” He works on Wall Street, dates beautiful women and has a great boss (Vincent Gallo).

Well, that’s what it seems like on the outside to those closest to him (which would basically just consist of his mother). Dig a little deeper, and you find out that Bobby’s actual profession is that of a pickpocket, and his boss is a man who his late father owed $500,000 in gambling debt. Now, Bobby is slowly paying it off by working for him as an elusive street thief.

Oh, and the beautiful women? Well, one of them is three months pregnant and runs into Bobby. That becomes the central conflict of this hidden gem, available now via Video on Demand. Well, and the fact that Lt. Sullivan (Michael Madsen) is doing everything in his power to catch Bobby on account of the fact that Bobby got a little too greedy and pick pocketed his badge.

“Loosies” works mostly due to a strong and very likable script (which Facinelli wrote). The film gives us real characters with real reasons to dislike them, but what drives the film is how the actors and script show show us small details about each character that are positive. We want everything to be OK.

These characters are so different, yet their paths interconnect, bringing us a very unusual and entertaining film. Lt. Sullivan belongs in a Dirty Harry movie, while Bobby actually probably belongs in “Wall Street” (someone say “Wall Street 3?” On second thought, don’t), and Gallo’s eccentric boss just belongs in an eccentric Gallo movie, I suppose.

Each actor brings something unique to the script. They make the film interesting and drive it along. The script helps because it moves at a fast pace but never uses false gimmicks and Hollywood clichés to drive the plot forward. It simply tells us a story, and that should be fine with anyone who enjoyed old Hollywood before the new one rode in with a vengeance.

The film’s second half is its strongest and also one that conservatives will particularly enjoy. After finding out that Lucy (Jaimie Alexander) is pregnant, Bobby decides to just get rid of it. So, being the upstanding gent that he is, he offers to pay for an abortion and personally take her (which leads to some great scenes when Bobby can’t enter his home to get the money on account of scary Madsen being staked outside).
After finally convincing her, Bobby takes her to the clinic. He takes a strong look around. He sees another young couple and it hits him. It’s a baby, his baby. It’s not some stray dog. Thus, the film grows a heart and Bobby grows some old-school machismo.

In a world of “Transformers” and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” it’s nice to see an artist like Facinelli, best known for his work in the “Twilight” series, want to tell a real story with real characters and real hardships. The film isn’t great, but it has moments of greatness because of the fantastic performances by everyone all around. Facinelli is great in the lead role. He’s never showy and performs Bobby’s growth as a character perfectly.

Alexander has old-school charisma and steals every scene she’s in. Madsen fits perfectly into his role and Gallo, as usual, adds layers upon layers onto his character. By the end of it all, it may be hard to figure out whether Jax was truly evil or not. The direction by Michael Corrente is also impressive. The film may clearly be low budget, but the lighting and the way he focuses his camera gives great detail to the picture and adds a moodiness that wouldn’t have been there without it.

“Loosies” is not a masterpiece, but it is a solid piece of cinema. Forget the gimmicks, forget the clichés. Just sit back and enjoy a great story that will tug you along from start to finish all while entertaining you and leaving you with some food for thought, which is more than most movies today can say.
